Is there really a divorce in progress?

i have been in a relationship with this man for 8yrs. he has been separated from his estranged wife for 9yrs. i know that it may sound crazy but i already knew of her. on his birthday she called him and said that wanted to file for the divorce. to him, that was the best gift he could ever have. but on my behalf it just didn't sit right. she had a baby by another man during the separation and told the lawyer that the father was him(very impossible) that is why the child has his last name instead of hers. but we haven't heard anything more about the divorce. my man is very upset behind the fact that she is claiming him as the father but he truly feels that she drop the divorce. we were really looking forward to getting married in nov, if not june.
